Richard Essien also known as Magical Bones is considered to be the most exciting talent to have emerged from the magic industry in recent years. Born and raised in South East London, the magician and dancer has been entertaining audiences across the globe for over 10 years.
Richard was born to perform, and even at the tender age of 5 he was already impressing all of his family members with his Michael Jackson dance moves in the living room. For his 10th birthday he was given a magic set as a present from his mum and he immediately began immersing himself in the art of magic, and since then he’s dedicated thousands of hours to learning and performing magic.
Richard believes ‘Life is magic’ and he walks his talk by performing magic everywhere from penthouse suites to the rough council estates in Peckham; sharing magic with Corporate CEOs, people on the street and everyone else in between. Richard says ‘the best thing about magic is how it appeals to everyone. I can go from a black-tie dinner to a back-garden party, and everyone has a few moments of awe and astonishment’.
Although magic is a major component in his life, Richard started out his professional career as a hip-hop dancer and was given the nickname ‘Bones’ because of his hard-hitting dance style. An exceptionally skilled break-dancer and a gifted showman, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the most respected and prominent figures within the UK hip hop scene.
As well, he has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry including Madonna, Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and Plan B. He is also the featured dancer in the video of Mint Royals’ UK No. 1 smash hit single, Singing In the Rain.
Now focusing primarily as a magician he has fused his love of hip-hop culture with his passion for the art of magic to create a unique blend of innovative magic, which he describes as a ‘soulful experience of astonishment’.
